Here you will find my PhD thesis. For an introduction to the subject I would recommend any of the review papers I mention along the bibliography. If you are interested in one specific achievement, I invite you to download and distribute (but not to modify) it freely. This is what you will find:
- A good introduction about optical biosensing
And I say good because I intended to present the full picture. There exist excellent papers (even books, in some cases) about one or several of these subjects, but I could never find a text about all together. From the point of view of a physicist: a spherical cow, a spherical molecule.
- A calculation method useful for dielectric waveguides and Surface Polariton modes.
The transfer-matrix method for complex refractive indices was programmed for stack systems with an arbitrary number of metallic or dielectric layers.
- A single optical representation tool for surface corrugations and adsorbed particles.
The Equivalent Layer Approximation used for representing gratings and biomolecule layers, leading to realistic predictions.
- Multisensing and on-chip reference in Grating Coupler Biosensors.
A multi-channel design of unlimited scalability, together with, to my knowledge, the first implementation of on-chip reference in these kind of devices.
- Several working biosensing device setups.
The fabricated sensors, their instrumentation and the demonstration of their viability.
- And more...
