After years preparing myself as a scientist I have learned to be diplomatic and how to ask for resources to different institutions. Although these skills were not vocational, they have become an important part of my job. Because today many organizations need people who can do a bit of everything, I became two different things at the same time.
Cleanroom manager
University of Barcelona / 10/02/2010 - today
The
Laboratory of Micro/nanotechnologies is a 250m2 cleanroom placed in the Faculty of Physics of the
University of Barcelona. This infrastructure, created in 2009, is an ambient-controlled laboratory shared by several research groups and used for the teaching of different subjects. I am the technical responsible of this laboratory, and some of the facilities available in it. You may find more information about it elsewhere on this website or on the
website of the laboratory.
Technical project manager
University of Barcelona / 10/02/2010 - today
Barcelona Knowledge Campus is an aggregation initiative emerged from the "Campus of Excellence" program of the Spanish Ministries of Education and Science and Innovation, which have been recently restructured. The aim of the program is to strengthen coordination between Higher Education and research Institutions that share the geographic or thematic area.
Cleanroom startup
University of Barcelona / 16/09/2009 - 31/01/2010
Along this period I was the responsible for the set-up of the Laboratory of Micro/Nanotechnologies, since the completion of its construction its the standard operation.
System developer
NTEC 106, S.L. / 01/06/2008 - 31/05/2009
Along one year I developed a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) Biosensor prototype for a spinoff called NTEC 106, SL., with a contract partially funded by the Spanish Government, within the Torres Quevedo program. The system was presented in the 22nd Eurosensors Conference (Dresden, Germany) but after bankrupt, the company could not continue this research.
Research scientist
University of Barcelona / 01/05/2004 - 30/04/2008
Thanks to the Training of Research Staff (FPI) program, I dedicated four years to scientific research. The subject was Optical Biosensing, from both the model and engineering viewpoints. With the help of our project partners with some Bioengineering and nanofabrication tasks, we developed a series of prototypes with different improvement strategies. Along this period I was involved in most of the subjects, from the mathematical models to nanofabrication and instrumentation. The outcome from this period is the PhD thesis titled Optical Biosensing with Nanostructured Surfaces, which I have attached here.
Private lessons
Freelance / From the beggining - 01/05/2004
During my studies I got some income by tutoring. The list of subjets is long, although I may highlight general physics, electromagnetism, optics, Linux and C programming.
ETHz, Zurich (Switzerland) / 15/08/2007 - 14/07/2007
Along this three-month stay I've involved in the
WExFM project. To my knowledge this is still an ongoing project, with promising results.
Nanofabrication of embossed biosensors. Startup of the SPR-G line of research. These devices currently represent one of the main lines of research at the Laboratory of Optoelectronics where I developed my research.
Thanks to the MC2ACCESS grant program our group could fabricate the dielectric nanostructured grating couplers according to the previous optimization results. These sensors worked as expected and constituted the basis of a growing series of publications.
